#134: Hopelessness







As a 90s kid, I know I sound completely biased when I say this, but I honestly believe that the early 90s were the most ideal time in American history. The Cold War had ended, the economy had recovered from a recession and was heading towards an economic boom, and technology was advancing like never before with innovations such as the internet.

I can only imagine that someone who had fallen into a coma back then and awoke today would be shocked to learn that all of that peace, prosperity, and optimism had been undone by war, recession, and ignorance-driven demagoguery. It would be like a nightmare that you could never wake up from!

On a lighter note, back in 1993, AT&T ran the following series of commercials that predicted future innovations such as GPS navigation, videoconferencing, tablet computers, smartwatches, and streaming video on-demand. In fact, the only thing these commercials didn’t seem to get right was that these technologies would be brought to the world by AT&T! It just goes to show that, if there is any hope for the future, it will be brought about by science and technology, not through politics.
