"The conflict conservatives have with science is mostly caused by religion. Some religious conservatives reject evolution, and some oppose stem cell research. But neither belief has a big impact on our day-to-day lives. Species continue to evolve regardless of what conservatives believe, and if conservatives ban government funding of stem cell research, private investors will continue the work. By contrast, the left’s bad ideas about science do more harm." - John Stossel, The Anti-Science Left.
Bernie Sanders supports, as a major presidential platform position, a ban on fracking. He and other environmentally-minded leftists argue that fracking harms the environment. This claim flies in the face of countless scientific studies that prove otherwise. One recent study debunks the claim that fracking contaminates drinking water.
And yes, this was a legit scientific study from Yale University and not a “right-wing Koch-funded think tank”—which is a political boogeyman often cited by the left to deflect and deny any scientific evidence that contradicts their political dogma!
The irony is that “liberals” call themselves “liberal” because they claim that they are willing to change their beliefs based upon new evidence; and yet, so often, “liberals”, for as much as they accuse conservatives of being anti-science, routinely deny scientific evidence that contradict their beliefs, whether it is on vaccinations and genetically-modified organisms, or on climate change and basic economics. So would it be any surprise that Bernie Sanders would still insist on banning fracking, even if presented evidence that it is safe?
John Stossel offers more insight on how hypocritically and ironically “anti-science” leftists can really be:
